THE LIGHTS IN THE LOTS AND BY THE BOULEVARDS

The effect of the rain storm was dazzling and people paused, a bit uncomfortable or not knowing what to think or feel, and gazed out upon the splash of colors it had made. Because of the lights and other factors surely, the elements storm had conspired to create a drama-like stage. Red backdrops, pink rooftops, purple water, white flecks in windows, rolling clouds that let out black ink and strong grey shapes. All through it the rain continued pounding the pavement, splashing across sills, and marrying the hills for miles around. It seemed as if signs might crumble or at least the ink from them would run. Then the higher and more distant skies let out thunder and later on, lightning but the type that lit up everything momentarily and not just any streak. We watched the cars go past, practically hydroplaning on the boulevards, slowly, cravenly they went for one wrong move and they could float off somewhere like a vessel. And their lights…marvelous moving artifacts, guided by steel, looking ahead like the mechanical electrical pupil-less eyes there were. Looking ahead through the rain and dizzy dazzle environment.
